--- ## Important Notes About This Calculator 1. **This is a simplified implementation** of the PREVENT equations based on the published model structure. For the most accurate results, cross-reference with the [official AHA PREVENT calculator](https://professional.heart.org/en/guidelines-and-statements/prevent-calculator). 2. **The PREVENT model produces total CVD risk** (ASCVD + heart failure), not ASCVD-only risk. This differs from the older Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE) which estimated ASCVD risk alone. 3. **Risk categories** are based on the 10-year total CVD risk per the 2026 ACC/AHA guidelines [2]. 4. **This calculator does not replace** the full risk stratification process, which includes evaluation of risk enhancers, advanced tools (ApoB, Lp(a), CAC), and clinical judgment. See [04 — Risk Stratification](/clinical/04-risk-stratification.html). ## References 1. Khan SS, Matsushita K, Sang Y, et al.
